Our mission is to be an incredible community where people experience Jesus and His transformation. We also have a vision to equip campus ministry leaders to bring the hope and life of Christ to university and college campuses.
A little history
Our organization grew up out of our long time campus ministry previously called Geneva Fellowship based at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.
In 2010 we celebrated 35 years of campus ministry at Queen’s University. At that time, our campus ministry director Steve Kooy reflected that, “Our mission at Queen’s is to draw the campus to Christ, draw it into community, and to draw out the callings of the people and the institution.”
Nothing and everything has changed in the 10 years since. Our name slightly shifted from Geneva Fellowship to Geneva Campus Ministries, but the mission to see students connected to Christian community and rooted in their faith during their university and college years remains foundational to our focus. With that mission has come many blessings: committed and gifted leaders, new and growing programs, and expansion to other post-secondary campuses throughout Ontario. God has blessed our ministry richly.
New growth, new momentum
Over the last number of years in particular, our ministry has experienced amazing growth that presents new opportunities, influence, needs, challenges, and changes. We now have partnerships and programs at Queen’s University, St. Lawrence College (including the Kingston, Brockville, and Cornwall campuses), Royal Military College, and Loyalist College, as well as plans for growth at Durham College and Ontario Tech in Oshawa and maybe even on campuses in Peterborough.
Our momentum has been incredible, and it is this energy and our students’ ongoing need for Christian community that takes our ministry upwards and onwards to new locations. We believe in sharing the good things that are happening in Kingston with our brothers and sisters serving on other campuses across Ontario, Canada, and the US.
This year we reflected on our ministry’s identity and history as Geneva Fellowship/Geneva Campus Ministries. We realized that beyond ministering to our students, we have begun to help train and equip campus and church leaders for young adult ministry and for greater Kingdom impact. We believe this is not just an opportunity but a calling. We are so much more than we were before. In order to reflect our new identity and calling, we realized that we needed a new name to communicate who we are and who we have become. And so, we are excited to share our new name with you: Momentum Campus Ministries!
A reflection of where we’ve been and a hope for where we’re headed, our new name speaks to our mission to both draw our students into Christian community during their studies and equip today’s campus leaders. We’re following the momentum of the Holy Spirit as we move people closer to God, move them more deeply into community, and move them forward into mission.
We believe good things are ahead as we share our resources, experiences, and knowledge with others.
What we do and how we do it
Momentum Campus Ministries partners with existing campus ministries or connects with local churches to raise up new campus ministry teams where none exist. Every university and college has its own unique ministry identity, one that reflects the distinct character of the student body. We want to honour this individuality.
Every campus ministry affiliated with Momentum Campus Ministries and its programs retain their own distinct identity that connects to its students best. For example, Geneva House has always been the name of our headquarters located at Queen’s University. Other ministries develop their own name and persona while partnering or collaborating with the broader Momentum Campus Ministries organization.
We are so excited to share this new chapter of our ministry with you today and hope that you partner with us as we give students a place to belong and help leaders thrive in their faith and gifts.
